Artist Statement: In "WE Are The People," I use cubism to break down the barriers that often divide us. As I've matured, I've felt a deeper urgency to address the political narratives that shape our lives. The faces in this work are diverse in color and form, yet they share a collective gaze, anchored by the observing eyes above. As a child of immigrants, I see art as the most powerful tool for transformation. My goal is to use this canvas to plant a seed of peace, turning the 'us versus them' narrative into a singular, beautiful 'WE'.
Born in Gonaïves, Haiti, Naderson Saint-Pierre's artistic journey began in childhood as a storyteller. He would create elaborate tales for anyone who would listen. This once-a-week hobby soon developed into a full-time profession, laying the foundation for his art. Since then, he has painted prolifically, exploring new skills, genres, and ideas with a genuine love for his craft. A self-taught artist, Saint-Pierre is known for his colorful and compelling Black portraiture. His work showcases his incredible raw skill and precise technique. Often autobiographical and rich in narrative, his portraits celebrate Black identity while carving out a uniquely personal style. His art not only pays homage to art world pioneers but also tells stories that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
