About this Program

The Sing for Hope Pianos will take to the streets across Newport News, creating spontaneous moments of live music and joy throughout the community. On Thursday, March 28th, Sing for Hope will unveil 10 new Sing for Hope Pianos created by local artists, which will all be accessible in the Diamonstein Lobby of the Ferguson Center starting at 9 AM. The all-day public launch precedes a performance by acclaimed American pianist Drew Petersen, which will take place at 7:30 PM in the evening on the main stage. The celebration coincides with World Piano Day, which is the 88th day of the year, a nod to the 88 keys on the piano.

Bruce Bronstein
“I’ve admired and enjoyed Sing for Hope pianos in major cities throughout America. I’m thrilled that the Ferguson Center for Performing Arts and The Toggler Fine Arts Center, along with our friends at Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center, are able to bring Sing for Hope pianos to Newport News. We believe in the transformative power of the arts, and Sing for Hope aligns perfectly with our commitment to Arts for All – by removing any obstacles that prevent access.” - Bruce Bronstein

The Sing for Hope Pianos

From the Bronx to Beirut, the Sing for Hope Pianos program is a global arts initiative that creates artist-designed pianos; places them in public spaces for anyone and everyone to enjoy; then transports and activates them year-round in permanent homes in schools, hospitals, transit hubs, refugee camps, and community-based organizations. Sing for Hope has provided more pianos for under-resourced public schools than any other organization in the world.
