Artist Statement: It was such a pleasure to work on this Sing for Hope Piano project alongside the Gouverneur community of staff, patients, and residents! Together, we participated in an art activity designed to capture the voices of the community. Everyone was invited to create a small piece of art on an index card, which came together as a collective mosaic of “tiles” reflecting their favorite colors, visions of community, and what Gouverneur means to them. I used the themes that surfaced in their artworks to create the SFH Piano design. Some recurring themes were abstract drawings in a rainbow of colors, including nature landscapes, and lots of hearts. My signature design is a fluid art technique to create marble-like patterns, which I used on sections of the SFH Piano to inspire an energy of flow. It was such a fun piece to work on, and I hope it adds a bit of joy to Gouverneur Hospital.
