Listen to the Sounds of the Street Pianos

Sing for Hope’s Street Pianos brought 60 pianos to the streets of New York City from June 21 to July 5 2010.

Christopher Marianetti and Jeremy Thal of Found Sound Nation spent two days traveling around NYC documenting the people, the performers, and the communities surrounding 10 different street pianos in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

In four tracks Christopher Marianetti (NOPIANO) mixes two days of audio recordings, including interviews, performances, improvisations, and street sounds – using only material collected within 10 feet of each piano. The resulting mixes are part song, part interview, part story, collages.

Here is an example of one track entitled “I Used to Play When I Was a Kid”.
