Sing for Hope congratulates our Co-Founding Director Camille Zamora for being honored by the World Harmony Run with a Torch-Bearer Award! The Torch-Bearer Award recognizes people who have inspired their nations and communities through their own lives and deeds. Previous Torch-Bearer Awardees include sports iconoclast Billie Jean King and Dr. Davidson Hepburn, President of the General Conference of UNESCO.
The award ceremony took place as part of the closing events for the World Harmony Run, a global event promoting international understanding, at the United Nations’ Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, on Monday, August 23 in New York City.
Sing for Hope Donor Artists Amy Justman and Brian Neff performed alongside the New York City Housing Authority Youth Chorus, led by Larry Matthew. Numerous UN Ambassadors, members of the diplomatic community and World Harmony Run Coordinators from over 100 nations were in attendance.
Founded in 1987 by world harmony visionary Sri Chinmoy to promote international understanding, the World Harmony Run is now the world’s longest global relay. During the course, relay teams carry the World Harmony Run torch over 45,000 miles through 100 countries. Here in the US, an international team will cover 10,000 miles visiting all 50 states.
