Our History

Sing for Hope Co-Founding Directors Monica Yunus and Camille Zamora had a common desire to lift their voices for social change long before their paths ever crossed.

In 1995, Camille organized Sing for Hope: An Evening of Art Songs and Arias in memory of a dear friend who spent his final days at Houston’s Omega House AIDS Hospice.  Thanks to the generosity of Camille’s musical friends and the steadfast support of Continental Airlines and other sponsors, the concert is now one of the country’s largest annual AIDS benefits.

The daughter of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus, Monica is no stranger to the world of philanthropy. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Monica organized fundraising concerts with her colleagues from The Metropolitan Opera.

Together, Camille and Monica, who became close friends while in the Master’s Degree program at The Juilliard School, established Sing for Hope as a resource for artists who share a desire to use their talents for positive social change.
