F.A.Q.

What are the requirements for Sing for Hope partner non-profits?

Sing for Hope partner non-profits are humanitarian organizations that respond to the pressing needs of individuals suffering from poverty, homelessness, natural disasters, inadequate educational resources, disease, or other hardship. Our partner agencies must be humanitarian non-profit organizations qualifying for federal tax exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, or the international equivalent thereof. Sing for Hope does not act as a clearing house for donations to our benefiting organizations, but rather requires the organizations to be responsible for accepting donations directly. Sing for Hope partner non-profits sign a letter agreeing to support the Sing for Hope Volunteer Artist(s) in publicizing and maximizing the friend-raising and fund-raising potential of their event.

What are the requirements for Sing for Hope Volunteer Artists?

Sing for Hope Volunteer Artists are working professionals who, schedule permitting, commit to participating in an annual benefit event (either a fundraising performance or an outreach event) for a worthy humanitarian organization, and/or to using Sing for Hope as a resource for the creation of an event for a humanitarian cause in their own community. While our Volunteer Artists are recognized professionals who have the experience required to perform with limited rehearsal time, select conservatory-level performers are also encouraged to contact Sing for Hope for guidance if they demonstrate a strong interest in charitable outreach and arts activism.

What does Sing for Hope do to aid in the creation of humanitarian benefit events?

What Sing for Hope offers is logistical support, networking capabilities, a trusted benefit concert model, and overall program coordination for uniquely powerful benefit events. We consult on all aspects of event creation in a way that maximizes impact, awareness, and donations for humanitarian causes.  This includes consultation on pacing and programming, venue selection, ticket pricing and distribution, public relations, and Host Committee creation. In addition to offering detailed instructional models, we allow regular access to our staff, who provide key support for Volunteer Artists and partner non-profits. To facilitate publicity, we offer our logo (in print-ready digital form), print materials (designed and printed specifically for your event), press release, and website feature (with the event and ticketing info listed on our Event Calendar). We also provide an Agreement of Support which is signed by Volunteer Artists and partner non-profits to delineate respective areas of responsibility.  At all stages, we empower Volunteer Artists and partner non-profits to maximize the impact of their arts activism in action.

I understand that Sing for Hope introduces kids to the performing arts and to the idea of artists as agents of social change, or what Juilliard President Joseph Polisi calls “the artist as citizen.” How do you do this exactly?

Sing for Hope’s Art U! arts and leadership education outreach program brings collaborative performances, classes, and workshops to under-resourced young people, introducing them to artistic self-expression and arts activism as means to better our world. For more information, please click here.

What is the Sing for Hope grant?

The Sing for Hope grant, made possible by a gift in honor of Sing for Hope from an anonymous donor to The Juilliard School, incentivizes and supports arts activism and the creation of benefit concerts by Juilliard Vocal Arts and Collaborative Piano students and alumni in their own local or hometown communities. The grant, which is awarded to multiple students annually, is adjudicated by the Vocal Arts Executive Committee based on submitted proposals that include detailed budgets, musical programming ideas, personal testimonials, and curricula vitae. Prize money is awarded to cover travel and other costs incurred in benefit concert production. The Juilliard School grant is one part of Sing for Hope’s dedication to instilling the concept of arts activism, and art as a means of bettering our world, in the next generation of classical musicians.

I am interested in having Sing for Hope perform at a private function that is not a humanitarian benefit event. Could this be arranged?

Sing for Hope will arrange a performance for your company or private party for a donation to our organization at the Amadeus or Impresario sponsorship levels; please click here for more information. Sing for Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Can anyone join the mission of Sing for Hope?

Yes! We welcome committed professional artists to our roster, and offer student-level artists the opportunity to consult with us as appropriate. We also warmly welcome all volunteers, donors, audience members, and humanitarian non-profit organizations.  We encourage you to contact us by clicking here.
